2010 World Cup Semifinal : Germany and Spain clash of the titans

The Germans are simply unstoppable, they pumped in 8 goals past 2 former World Champions England (4-1 win in the 2nd round) and Argentina (4-0 demolition in the quarter final). In the group stage, Germany routed Australia 4-0 and beat Ghana 1-0 but suffered a shock 0-1 loss to Serbia, after their talismanic top striker Miroslav Klose was sent off.

The Spanish squad has won 4 out of 5 matches at this 2010 World Cup, same as the Germans. After the shock 0-1 loss to Switzerland in their 1st match at the group stage, Spain never looked back, disposing off Honduras 2-0, Chile 2-1, Portugal 1-0 in the 2nd round knock out stage and another 1-0 win over Paraguay in the quarterfinal.

Germany and Spain do battle on Wednesday 7 July 2010 for the right to meet the Netherlands in the World Cup final, in a semifinal match, widely expected to be one of the most exciting clashes of the tournament. The clash of the Titans to be exact.

However the Germans prevailed in their 2 previous clashes of the Titans, pumping 4 goals against the 1966 champion England in their 4-1 win in the 2nd round and shocking 2 times world champion Argentina 4-0 in the quarterfinal.

Germany and Spain will fight to the teeth to ensure which team gets the right to face the Dutch in the final at Soccer City, Johannesburg on Sunday, 11th July, 2010.

A 3-2 Dutch victory on Tuesday against a Uruguayan side who fought until the last minute in a thrilling encounter, guaranteed Europe would win its first trophy outside the continent in the final at Johannesburg's Soccer City on Sunday.

The semi-final in Durban on Wednesday promises to be another thriller with both teams committed to attack and fast passing.

The speed and quality of the German side has been one of the surprises of the tournament while European champions Spain are one of the world's most stylish teams, able to torment opponents with precision passes and possession.

The Germans are 3 time world champions having won the World Cup in 1954, 1974 and 1990.

Germany will be looking for revenge for their defeat by Spain in the 2008 Euro final, 2 years ago.

But German coach Joachim Loew says they have got better and the speed of their game has improved since then, while Spain are the same, admittedly efficient, side as two years ago.

The Netherlands, in their first final since 1978, had to endure some nail-biting moments in the other semi-final on Tuesday when Uruguay pulled a goal back in added time and looked in danger of scoring another in the dying seconds.

It will be a battle between 2 sides that boast a handful of world football megastars.

Germany is powered by their 14 goals hero in 3 world cups - Miroslav Klose who now equals the legendary Gerd Muller Der Bomber world cup goals record. Klose will be assisted by the find of the tournament - the Germans young striker - Thomas Mueller of Bayern Munich.

Spain's chief striker David Villa who has scored 5 goals so far will be the main threat in the Germans defence alongside the dangerous Fernando Torres who even tough still has not scored in this World Cup, remains one of the deadliest strikers in the world.

The Germans has qualified into 12 world cup semifinals. Apart from winning 3 world cups, the mighty Germans also featured in the final 3 times in a row in 1982 (beaten by Italy 1-3), 1986 (beaten by Argentina 2-3) and 1990(crowned world champion after 1-0 win against Argentina).

As for the Spanish Armada, they have never won the world Cup.

Go Germans Go Spain!!!
